 Born November 23, 1984, in Long Beach California. He grew up in the neighboring city of Lakewood, where he attended Mayfair High School. In 2000, he lost in the championship game of the Mickey Mantle World Series, but went home with the Big Stick award. His senior year, he was the Suburban League MVP. Justin graduated from Mayfair in 2002 with a scholarship to play baseball at Cal State Fullerton. In the summer of 2002, Justin won the Connie Mack World Series with the Long Beach Cardinals and received a Golden Glove Award for outstanding defensive play.
At Fullerton, Justin started as a freshman, along with fellow Play Hard Coach, Dustin Miller. We went to the College World Series in 2003. In 03’, Justin was named to the CWS All Tournament Team SS and was named a Freshman All-American. He played on the 2004 National Championship team. In 2005, Justin was selected in the 29th round of the draft by the New York Yankees. He declined their offer and returned to Fullerton for his senior year. In 2006, Justin was again named an All-American as well as Big West Player of the Year. He was named Rawlings Defensive Player of the Year. The Titans returned to Omaha for a 3rd time. Justin made the CWS All Tournament Team as a 2B.
Justin was selected in the 7th round of the 2006 draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He started his professional career in Billings Montana, playing for the short season affiliate, Billings Mustangs. Justin was a Pioneer League All Star 2nd Baseman, Baseball America Minor League All Star 2nd Baseman, and a Topps Short Season Rookie All Star.
In 2007, Justin started in the Low A Midwest League. He played out of Dayton Ohio for the Dragons. Justin hit a career high 10 HR’s which helped him in being named to the Mid West League mid-season and post-season All Star Team. At the end of the year, Justin earned a promotion to High A, the Florida State League. Where he played for the Sarasota Reds.
